Kids Showcase Berlin
An exhibition of the youngest art enthusiasts of Berlin
This exhibition focussed on the educational practices from the vibrant art scene in Berlin. From 2012 to 2014 hundreds of pieces of artwork were created by children under the banner of October Children’s Month, or as it is called in Berlin KinderKulturMonat. These fabulous presentations of the creativity of Berlin’s youth in 2014 were bundled into one large children’s exhibition in Riga's Pupils Palace.
Between 2012 and 2014, the WerkStadt Arts Union in cooperation with Berlin artists and neighbourhood schools organised a wide ranging series of workshops in all fields of art in the German capital: museum tours, orchestra music, theatre, dance performances, and fine art classes.
The exhibition presented the products of these workshops made by participating schoolchildren between the ages of eight and twelve, and documented the large scope of the project. It illustrated how it was possible to successfully get younger generations to become interested, and at times even passionate, about the arts.
Displaying their artistic talents provided a momentous opportunity for the involved Berlin children to feel proud and honoured! At the same time we hoped to inspire art educators and families in Riga to partake in the same experiences themselves. By highlighting these art education projects from Berlin we would like to start a dialogue about best practises and exchange valuable experiences in the professional field of art education across the four partner counties. Artists and art educators were welcome to join our European Art Education Network and join in the artistic and cultural exchange, bringing European cities, families and children closer together.
